Crush Me
*~*~*~*~*
A cold drink for a cold night. Lindsey McDonald couldn't think of anything better at the moment. Okay, maybe he could. He could think of a tropical rain forest. He could think of fresh flowers and a beautiful sun-filled day.
Or he could think of Darla.
He could think of her blonde hair and soft smile. He could think of her pale skin or her delicate touch. He could even admit to himself that he loved her. No. He wouldn't admit that. He couldn't. She was four hundred years old and she was a vampire who was brought back human. She wasn't normal. But then again neither was he.
When he heard the door open he looked over and watched her walk in with perfectly timed steps. They were still the steps of a predator whether she was hunting or not. You couldn't change that walk. The short blue dress she was wearing billowed above her knees like a breeze over her fragile limbs. She was beauty. And she was the beast. She was what he wanted.
But soon she faded and disappeared and Lindsey paused to wonder how much he had actually been drinking tonight. He sighed and walked over to his CD player. The smooth jazz-like sound of "Crush" by Dave Matthews filled the air. He tapped his fake hand on the table to the beat and wondered if a crush was all he was having. Was this just a crush that he would get over? Could a man such as himself love? Setting his drink aside he stuck his hand in his pocket and started to bob to the beat. A small smile played across his lips a he listened to the words.
"Lovely lady let me drink you please..."
Talk about irony. He couldn't believe it when he feet started to tap to the beat as well and soon they were even moving in what seemed to be dance steps. He laughed silently to himself. Here he was, Lindsey McDonald, big time lawyer for Wolfram and Hart, dancing while thinking about this girl.
"Lying under this spell you cast on me each moment the more I love you... Crush me... Come on it's crazy I'm thinking just knowing that world is round and here I am dancing on the ground... Is this real or am I dreaming?"
The song rolled through his head and answered some questions in his head while providing others.
"Am I right side up or upside down?"
As the melody continued he shuffled along the floor in a little dance. Nothing too extravagant, but enough to help him connect with the song. It was enough to help him connect to his thoughts. And he found that they were mostly of this girl... correction. They were mostly of this woman who has been tossed into his life not of her own accord.
The song ended and Lindsey once again sighed. He returned to his drink and sat down. A cold drink for a cold night. Lindsey McDonald couldn't think of anything better at the moment....
